Health Science Platform Held Freshmen Welcome Party

On the evening of 27th of October, a fantastic freshmen party held by the Health Science Platform was performed on the Students Centre stage. Dean Jay Siegel, Party Secretary of SPST Feng Cuiling, Vice Dean Kim Baldridge, Vice Dean Zhang Ling, and Deputy Party Secretary and Vice Dean of SPST, DU Yunfei, attended this event.  

Before the welcome partyMs. Feng Cuiling presented awards to the outstanding students, commending them on their academic performance.

Wang Xinyao, Li Simiao, Liang Bowen, and Gao Chuqiao hosted the HSP Freshmen Welcome Party, which was divided into three different sections. 

The first section began after an introductory dance performed by the Students Union.

It started with a traditional Chinese dance solo performed by Gong Shiyuan, a member of the Peiyang Dance Troupe. The dance Jiang Feng successfully set the tone for the evening with an inspirational blend of movement and fantasy.

The second performance presented an instrumental version of Coldplay’s Viva la Vida performed by a student band, celebrating life and freedom. For the final performance of the first section, the chorus of SPST chose the song Adiemus.

The second section was composed of modern, faster-paced dancing. The modern dancing of Bang bang bang successfully paved the way for the second part. The dance spun brought by the dance troupe of SPST, mixing jazz and hiphop, definitely raised the energy levels in the auditorium. 

The last performance of the second section moved in a different direction, with the performance of a play, Nobody Survived, acted out by freshmen from Class 1, using a detective story to create mystery and suspense and lure the audience in.

The third section of the party drew back the curtain to the sound of laughter and applause. Students of the School of Life Sciences brought us a comedy skit titled Laming Little News.

The dance performed by the graduate students’ union ignited the crowd, and heated the atmosphere. Afterwards, the comedy Coal Bond, performed by the Acting Club, made the audience burst into laughter again. The last performance of the whole party was teacher Zhao Yalin singing Half Moon Serenade, which set off the climax of the event. 

During the party, Dean Zhang Ling played the piano solo Liang Liang for the audience, which won the warm applause of everyone.

Ma Shuyue and Dong Zhanlin also made the audience burst out into laughter with  a traditional Chinese cross talk skit.

The party gamehosted by Gan Zihan and Gao Junyanreceived an enthusiastic response from teachers and students alike. In the prize-drawing sessionwe were honored to invite special guests Vice Dean Zhang Ling, Professor Jon Antilla, Professor Benjamin Clark, Dean Jay Siegel and Professor Kim Baldridge to draw the lottery. The whole freshman party rang down the curtain in applause and laughter, with many students carrying off prizes into the night. 

After this memorable welcome, all HSP freshman will keep striving towards a brighter future!
