Primary Focus: Radiation Induced Bystander Mutagenesis (RIBE)

Top: Construction of E-18 cell line (a modified WTK1 cell line) to measure bystander mutagenesis at a higher resolution. A unique 18 base sequence spliced into the TK1 gene of heterozygous host; which upon exogenous expression of the I-Sce1 restriction enzyme cuts at the 18 base sequence and renders a heterozygous cell line to homozygous recessive for the TK1 gene. Such recessive mutants can be screened using the mutation assay. Poisson distribution analysis allows the measurement of mutants in a 96 well assay to determine mutation frequency.  

Bottom: Comet assay employed for semi-quantification of  I-Sce1 induced DNA damage in E-18 cells using fluorescence microscopy.

Other research interests:

Collaborating in the field of translational breast cancer research that is focused on identifying environmental risks, conceiving new therapeutic strategies, testing novel anti-cancer drugs and providing insight to develop new prototypes of biomedical equipment for in-vitro fertilization technology and tailored gene therapy. Also, interested in the screening of novel synthetic lead compounds (such as Akt 1, 2, 3) that have therapeutic potential against cancer target proteins.
