The American Chemical Society (ACS) JingJinJi Chapter has been selected as a finalist for theChemLuminary Awardwhich will honour an ACS Local Section, Division, and International Chapter for their efforts in the international realm, particularly in engaging ACS International Chemical Sciences Chapters. The selection was made in recognition of the ACS JingJinJi Student Chapter for the outstanding success of the ACS’ Chemistry in theCommunity Health Sciences Festivalwhich drew an enthusiastic crowd of some 2,000 students, parents and teachers.
TheACS Chemistry in the Community Health Sciences Festivalisan outreach event broadly targeting the local community. The mission of the chemistryfestival is to educate the community, especially school-age students about how chemistry is everywhere around us, in our daily lives, and that everything we do is impacted by chemistry.
Prof Nathaniel Finnery, the advisor of the ACS Student Chapter which organized the festival, said “I am extremely proud of the over 70 student volunteers who engaged school-age children, parents and teachers in the wonders of science, and gave them an opportunity to become scientists for a day.” The ten demonstrations, which were interactive and hands-on, extended observations of ordinary materials tomolecular properties and structure.
“This is a high distinction for such a young organization as ours and further confirms our position as a leading molecular science institution in China” said Prof Jay Siegel, the President of the ACS JingJinJi Chapter. The ACS JingJinJi Chapter was established in August, 2016.
