SPST Faculty Develop Novel Ferroptotis-Targeting Ovarian Cancer Therapy

2024/10/08

Ferroptosis has been recognized as a promising therapeutic strategy for cancer due to its unique mechanism of action. However, the upregulation of stearoyl-CoA desaturase 1 (SCD1) in ovarian cancer leads to resistance to ferroptotic therapy. Zinc ion (Zn2+) serves as the cofactor of SCD1. It was hypothesized that selective deprivation of Zn2+ from SCD1 could sensitize ferroptotic ovarian cancer therapy....

Therapeutic "relay baton"-magnetically responsive hydrogels for metastatic recurrence of tumors after surgery

2024/02/06

Following surgery, tumor recurrence is a common concern that can be managed through immunotherapy. Nevertheless, the efficacy of such therapy is restricted. Emerging research has indicated that cellular pyroptosis may trigger long-lasting hyperinflammation, which can assist the immune system in effectively eliminating tumor cells over an extended period. Consequently, upholding the localized mi...

Reversing Ferroptosis Resistance in Breast Cancer via Tailored Lipid and Iron Presentation

2023/12/11

Cancer resistance is often associated with the presence of persister cells and the polarization of cancer cells towards a mesenchymal state. Therefore, ferroptotic cancer therapy has gained extensive attention because it is potent to eradicate resistant cancers that are refractory to conventional apoptosis-based approaches. Tailored phospholipids (arachidonoyl phosphatidylethanolamine/PE-AA) ar...
